Alamo Heroes Appear Foolish Today
by Chuck Baldwin, March 07, 2006
It
is that time of year for me to remind my readers about the
magnificent stand by the defenders of The Alamo back in 1836. The
Alamo fell on March 6 of that year. For more than 13 days, 186 brave
and determined patriots withstood Santa Anna's seasoned army of over
5,000 troops. To a man, the defenders of that mission fort knew they
would never leave those ramparts alive. They had several
opportunities to leave and live. Yet, they chose to fight and die.
How foolish they must look to this generation of spoiled Americans!
It is difficult to recall that stouthearted men such as Davy
Crockett (a nationally known frontiersman and former Congressman),
Will Travis (only 23 years old with a little baby at home), and Jim
Bowie (a wealthy landowner with properties on both sides of the Rio
Grande) really existed. These were real men with real dreams and
real desires. Real blood flowed through their veins. They loved
their families and enjoyed life as much as any of us. There was
something different about them, however. They possessed a commitment
to liberty that transcended personal safety and comfort.
Left to right: Davy Crockett, Jim
Bowie and Will Travis. Liberty is an easy word to say, but it is a hard word to live up to.
Freedom has little to do with financial gain or personal pleasure.
Accompanying Freedom is her constant and unattractive companion,
Responsibility. Neither is she an only child. Patriotism and
Morality are her sisters. They are inseparable; destroy one and all
will die.
Early in the siege, Travis wrote these words to the people of Texas:
"Fellow Citizens & Compatriots: I am besieged by a thousand or more
of the Mexicans under Santa Anna. The enemy has demanded a surrender
at discretion, otherwise the garrison are to be put to the sword. I
have answered the demand with a cannon shot & our flag still waves
proudly from the walls. I shall never surrender or retreat. VICTORY
OR DEATH! P.S. The Lord is on our side."
As you read those words, remember that Travis and the others did not
have the A.C.L.U., P.E.T.A., People for the un-American Way, and the
National Education Association telling them how intolerant and
narrow-minded their notions of honor and patriotism were. A hostile
media did not constantly castigate them as a bunch of wild-eyed
extremists. As school children, they were not taught that their
forefathers were nothing more than racist jerks.
The brave men at the Alamo labored under the belief that America
(and Texas) really was "the land of the free and the home of the
brave." They believed God was on their side and that the freedom of
future generations depended on their courage and resolve. They
further believed their posterity would remember their sacrifice as
an act of love and devotion. It all looks pale now.
By today's standards, the gallant men of the Alamo appear rather
foolish. After all, they had no chance of winning-none! However, the
call for pragmatism and practicality was never sounded. Instead,
they answered the clarion call, "Victory or death!"
Please try to remember the heroes of the Alamo as you listen to our
gutless political and religious leaders calling for compromise and
tolerance. Try to recall the time in this country when ordinary men
and women had the courage of their convictions and were willing to
sacrifice their lives for freedom and independence.
One thing is certain: those courageous champions did not die for a
political party or for some "lesser of two evils" mantra! They
fought and died for a principle. So did the men at Lexington and
Concord. That is our heritage. On second thought, do they look
foolish, or do we?

Comments by Wes Penre,
Illuminati News: I remember a song from
when I was a kid, sung both by Donovan and Johnny Cash. The song was
about the freedom fighters described above. The lyrics as follows:
Remember the Alamo
Eight hundred and eighty were challenged by
Travis to die
By a line that he drew with his sword as the battle drew nigh
A man that crossed over the line was for glory
And he that was left better fly
And over the line crossed one hundred and seventy nine
Hey Up Santa Anna, they're killing your soldiers below
So the rest of Texas will know
And remember the Alamo
Jim Bowie lay dying, the blood and the sweat in his eyes
But his knife at the ready to take him a few in reply
Young Davy Crocket lay laughing and dying
The blood and the sweat in his eyes
For Texas and freedom a man was more willing to die
Hey Up Santa Anna, they're killing your soldiers below
So the rest of Texas will know
And remember the Alamo
A courier came to a battle once bloody and loud
And found only skin and bones where he once left a crowd
Fear not little darling of dying
If this world be sovereign and free
For we'll fight to the last for as long as liberty be
Hey Up Santa Anna, they're killing your soldiers below
So the rest of Texas will know
And remember the Alamo
These people knew what they were doing when they
decided to fight against all odds. They knew before they even
started that they were going to die. But they died with "their boots
on", so that the rest of us could live in a country of liberty and
peace. They died for us, and they did so with their heads high...
They didn't save their country or the world, but they did their
part. Little known is that the 189 men (not 179 as mentioned in the
song above) who fought for Texas and freedom all died, BUT those 189
men managed to kill 1,600 enemies before they were defeated.
There are so many people suffering and dying under
horrible circumstances in this world - every single day. Why is
that? Is it just the law of nature? Is it a natural thing?
No, it is not. It is because a few people on this
planet want ALL the wealth, ALL the power and ALL the control over
the rest of us, so we can get NOTHING. They take our freedoms away
one by one, every month, every week, every day, and we just sit and
watch. Everything people like Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie and Will
Travis fought and died for, is stolen from us, and people don't see
it?
On the surface, the Battle of Alamo is about Texas
and freedom, but it is also about freedom and human rights on a
domestic and global scale. The difference between those who "crossed
the line" and were willing to fight until death drove them apart,
and those who decided to fly, is not necessarily that the ones who
withdrew were all cowards. They had priorities; many of them had
family and children, of course, and other things valuable to them in
life. No, the difference was that those who stayed and fought until
the end were those with the broader vision, who could see beyond
their own significance and their immediate lives, and were willing
to sacrifice themselves for this higher goal. They knew they would
not win the battle, but they hoped that what they did for freedom
would live on and stay in people's minds for generations to come.
It is not the Russians who are the enemy, nor the
Chinese, the Arabs or any other country. It is this small clique of
people, who have succeeded in deceiving us to such an extent that we
can't tell truth from fiction. These people are our ONLY enemies!
Until we all wake up to these sobering facts, much
more people will die and suffer for nothing, and we are responsible
for their deaths, for turning our backs and denying what is really
happening, because we don't want to face the responsibility it takes
to face the truth...
