I AM AN ANIMAL - The Story of Ingrid Newkirk and PETA
by Wes Penre, Nov 25, 2007
Ingrid Newkirk and Cindy
Sheehan
n the frontline on human rights we have Cindy
Sheehan. Relentlessly, she is shaking up the
Establishment by taking unusual actions to get
publicity in an efforts to stop the illegal war
in Iraq. Being a brilliant strategist, she is
making so much noise that the Media can't ignore
her; she is definitely making an impact. But is
she making any changes? Maybe, maybe not, but at
the very least she makes people start thinking.
On the
frontline on animal rights we have Ingrid
Newkirk, founder and President of PETA (People
for the Ethical
Treatment
of Animals).
Just like Sheehan, she is a brilliant
strategist, fearless and driven when comes to
protecting and fighting cruel and unethical
behavior towards animals. Despite, or rather
thanks to, her controversial methods of exposing
those cruelties, she gets a lot of Media
attention.
And there are
results! Companies all over the world adjust to
her demands after she and her staff by various
methods have more or less forced them to change
their policies to the animals' favor, and
started treating animals more humanely. By
giving these unethical Companies negative
publicity, they have little choice but to
change.
Due to her methods, Ingrid Newkirk has also had
negative publicity, and there are people who
think her actions are too offensive. However, in
this age of Media block-outs and news
suppression, drastic measures are sometimes
necessary. I would say, thanks to people like
Cindy Sheehan and Ingrid Newkirk there are lots
of people waking up to what is happening. And
like Newkirk says, there is no such thing as bad
publicity. All publicity is good, because it
gets people's attention.
In this short video, you will meet the woman who founded PETA. See what
makes her tick, see how far she is willing to go
to help animals, hear what her detractors
say—some who fear any threat to their bottom
line and others who are envious of her
success—and meet some of the animals who have
benefited from her tireless work.
I Am an Animal will give you a taste
of why PETA is the most successful animal rights
organization in the world and offer an inside
look at one woman's lifelong quest to make the
world a better place for all animals.
